Project Title: Experiments in Individual & Group Decision Making
{% endblock %}
{% block content %}
Introduction
You are invited to participate in an experiment that will take no more than 1 hour of your time. We are interested in understanding decision making in experiments using human subjects as participants. This research is conducted by Professor Nisvan Erkal from the Department of Economics at The University of Melbourne, and Professor Lata Gangadharan and Professor Erte Xiao from the Department of Economics at Monash University. This research project is funded by the Australian Research Council and has been approved by the Faculty Human Ethics Advisory Committee. It is expected that the findings of this project will help in the design of better institutions and improve the understanding of decision making.
What you will need to do
You will be given a set of instructions explaining the experiment and what you have to do in detail. The experiment is simple and requires no prior knowledge of economics. It is unlikely that there is any physical or mental discomfort associated with participation.
How will my confidentiality be protected?
The data from the experiment will be collected using randomly assigned identification numbers, so your choices will always remain anonymous, within the limits of the law. Payments will be made using PayID, so the random identification number assigned to you will be temporarily linked to your PayID details. However, this link, hence any identifying information, will be removed from the data before it is stored. All data will be stored indefinitely and securely, and will be accessible only by those involved in the research project. Your participation is completely voluntary and you may withdraw from the experiment without prejudice at any time.
Once the research project is completed, the results may be presented at academic conferences and published in academic journals. At this time, the data from this experiment will be made public without any identifying information to protect your privacy. If you wish to receive a copy of the published report, you can contact any of the researchers.
Participants for this experiment have been chosen from a random pool. In the unlikely event that you are a student of any of the researchers, please be advised that the experiment is completely voluntary and that your decision to participate, as well as the outcome of this experiment, will have no impact on your grades or the student-lecturer relationship.
